Igor Dobrovolskiy reimagines the legendary story of Carmen with a modern, contemporary vision. The ballet follows the fiery and independent Carmen, whose free spirit captivates Don José, leading him to abandon everything for love. But when Carmen’s heart turns toward the charismatic toreador Escamillo, Don José’s devotion spirals into jealousy and heartbreak. Filled with intensity, passion, and drama, Carmen is a timeless tale that grips the audience from the first note to the final movement, leaving every heart racing with anticipation.With stunning costumes designed by multi-disciplinary artist Denise Richard, this impressive adaptation of Bizet’s classic opera brings to life the fiery spirit of Carmen through breathtaking choreography, evocative & energetic music supplemented by three percussionists led by Joel Cormier.
Triton Percussion, a dynamic percussion trio from Moncton, New Brunswick, is set to enthrall audiences with their captivating performance in Atlantic Ballet’s production of “Carmen,” where they blend an evocative soundscape with Bizet’s iconic score. Founded in 2017 as a collaborative venture with Symphony New Brunswick and the Atlantic Ballet, Triton Percussion is on an exciting journey of expanding their repertoire and planning an array of concerts throughout the province.
Denise Richard is a multimedia artist and textile designer residing in the Acadian Peninsula. With a diploma in Fibre Arts, she has gained extensive experience as a textile, costume, and set designer for opera, theatre, and ballet productions. This marks her fourth collaboration with Atlantic Ballet.
